As much as I hate this task, it is my sad duty to inform you that this semester's Doctor E's Revenge challenge has come to an end!

The third place contestant was the mighty Jimmy Brito.   A mixture of 19 cent stamps, 23 cent stamps, and 32 cent stamps will be used to award Jimmy a prize of $20 from Doctor E, and something nice from Kadon Enterprises.   Nice going, JB!

Earning the Silver Medal, and the adoration of Nancy Kerrigan and Avis Rent-A-Car was Peter Behroozi.  Peter will be able to watch the adventures of Loonette and Molly on the new television he buys with the $40 Doctor E sends him.  He will also be receiving a nice present from Kadon Enterprises, which should keep him far too occupied to spend any more time writing scary epigrams and essays about Doctor E.  Congratulations!

This was a very tough competition this semester, with some very outstanding scores.  To come in first place required a mind quick like mercury, dedication as solid as steel, and lots of other good traits that could be compared to metals.  Doctor E is pleased to announce that the winner of Doctor E's Revenge was the one and only Alex Power.  Alex will be receiving $60 and a truly lovely gift from Kadon, along with the respect and admiration of his friends and colleagues.  Teddy Roosevelt may have run the most successful third-party candidacy in two centuries, reformed the New York city police department, created our national park system, broke up trusts that were thought to be unbreakable, and still managed to "have more fun than any other president in American History", but Teddy Roosevelt never won the Doctor E's Revenge contest, and Alex did.   Well, well done.

Hearty pats-on-the back also go to Dougs Kinney and Dicken, Mike Weepie, and Chad Smith for not allowing the prizewinners a moment's rest.  Doctor E. would also like to thank the University of Northern Iowa math department for supplying the cash prizes.  Michele Smith was again kind enough to give us space in the Northern Iowan, and Larry Leutzinger got Doctor E's butt out of bed to make an early morning presentation to a group of outstanding high-school teachers.  Props go to them and everybody else who has been promoting this contest.  The more people participate, the more fun everyone has (and the more likely it is that the prize budget can go up!)  When giving out said props, don't forget to save one for Syed Kirmani for his support and encouragement.

And, of course, Nadine Lilleskov and Nan Sash, without whom all the prizes and certificates would never wind up leaving the Doctor's office.  Props go to both!

Many thanks go to the folks at Kadon for their sponsorship.  Their website has lots of on-line puzzles and things worth checking out, so do so!  When you do visit, it wouldn't hurt to drop them a line and say "Doctor E sent me" - we would love to have their sponsorship next semester as well.

Finally, thanks to each and every one of you who participated in this challenge.   To quote the Rutles:  "We're only here, for you out there, so give yourselves a great big hand."  Every single entry was read by Doctor E himself, and everybody involved with the contest is glad that you sent them in.  Some of this semester's questions were tricky and some could be frustrating, so YAY for you for not just putting on Full House reruns, but instead taking the time to solve the problems, and to write your solutions up.  Make sure that someone you love cooks you a good meal tonight; you deserve it.

Hey!  Wait!  5 lines ago!  Did someone say, "next semester"?

Why yes...
I suppose that means...

The Wright Challenge III:  Doctor E Strikes Back!

Yes, folks, you've read it correctly.  There will be an all-new Wright Challenge next semester.  Watch this website, the Northern-Iowan, and the walls of Wright Hall for more news.  More puzzles!  More Thrills!  More fun!

Have a great break, and we will see you in August!
