THE BEAST IS SLAIN! THE PROBLEMS ARE GRADED!

The Wright Challenge 10: The Puzzlephonic Spree is finally over! Over 500 of you participated this time around, and after much deliberation involving behind the scenes things that, trust me, you don't want to know about, we have a five way tie for first place! Each winner will receive an equal share of the prize money, plus a prize from University Book and Supply!

So let's give a big round of applause to our winners: Andy Scott, Ashley Petersen, Melissa Potter, Paige Malven's Nashua Plainfield Trig Class, and Steve Wilson at Davis County High's class. Yay! Yay! Yay! You did it!

Special mentions go to Chris Cobble, Mark Oroyan and Paul Hlebowitsh, who came very, very close. Next time for sure, you guys.

This time around Doug and Adrienne wrote or stole the problems, Nan Sash made sure you knew about it, and the University of Northern Iowa department of Public Relations and Michele Smith of the Northern Iowan made the problems available to a broad range of peeps and peepets. Love to all!

Thank you to all the teachers, math clubs, and individuals who participated and made all of this possible and fun.

Next semester, the grading time will be much less than 8 months. Doctor E was telling his wife, Mrs. E, how they needed a professional web-designer to design a submittal form that will streamline the grading. Mrs. E, of course, is a professional web-designer, and knows a hint when she hears it, and because she loves all youth everywhere consented to do this thing. So next semester, you will submit your answers directly from this site and turnaround time should be a lot quicker. (If you think 8 months was a long time to wait, Mrs. E just waited 9 months for something - and as of last week your beloved Doctor E is now a DADDY)

That's right, folks, we're cranking up the puzzle engine and doing this again. The Good Doctor has had his semester of recuperating and is saying, "500? 1000? Bring em all on to be baffled and bemused by my next boffo puzzle contest!"

So look for it this coming semester,
Fall 2005,
Sharpen those pencils,
Buff those brain-cells,
Strab down the soddieflays,
Because this September will mark the awesome debut of...

The Wright Challenge XI:

Doctor E. and the Order of the Puzzlers
