Wright Challenge

Alas and alack, the Wright Challenge has come to an end!

The winner of the contest was the team of Doug Kinney and Heather Ernster!  They will be dancing the Hoodlee-Hoo as they share a first place prize of $50, which should buy them quite a bit of egg-salad.  The competition was fierce, so they are to be commended.

There was a tie for second place!  Sally the elf (or her representative) will be visiting both Chad Smith and team B3 from Dan Armstrong's class at Columbus high school, with a check for $25, each.  It is Doctor E.'s theory that Mr. Armstrong must be a pretty Boffo teacher to have such award-winning students, and that Chad must be a pretty bright guy to have finished in the money with a team of size one.  Again, commendations go all around.

Hearty pats-on-the back also go to Doug Dicken, Levente Timar, Mike Weepie, and teams A1 and B1 from Columbus, who gave the prizewinners stiff competition.  And Doctor E. would also like to thank the University of Northern Iowa student recruitment committee for organizing the challenge, and Michele Smith for being kind enough to give us space in the Northern Iowan.

Finally, thanks to each and every one of you who participated in this challenge.   None of these were easy questions, particularly since it is always easier to watch TV or go out and eat hamburgers than it is to sit and puzzle over a conundrum you read in the newspaper.  Doctor E would love to come and hug each of you who sent in a solution, correct or not.  Unfortunately, he cannot, because he is off, traveling the world in search of...

The Wright Challenge II:  Doctor E's Revenge!

Yes, folks, you've read it correctly.  There will be an all-new Wright Challenge next semester.  The prize budget has increased, and so there is even more of an incentive to watch this website, the Northern-Iowan, and the walls of Wright Hall for more news.  More puzzles!  More excitement!  More fun!

Have a great break, and we will see you in 2000!
