Title: Secondary Teachers' Knowledge of Rate of Change
Speaker: Jihwa Noh
ABSTRACT
This study
investigates experienced and less experienced secondary mathematics
teachers' knowledge of rate of change in the context of teaching a
Standards-based high school mathematics curriculum. Data were
collected from 13 CPMP teachers using survey, mathematical task-based
interview and classroom observations. Teachers' conceptions of rate
of change differed based by experience with the CPMP curriculum.
Results will be reported that curriculum materials may support
teachers as they learn rate of change but that a more thorough
understanding of the concept may require additional resources.
Students who had elementary differential geometry or advanced
calculus are encouraged to come to this talk.
