SPSS class - morning session

  1. Download the file sample.sav from the Center For Applied Statistics at Lancaster University page.

  2. Look at Session 3: Crosstabulation and Recode. You will be able to come back and review this at any time in the future. My web site for the SCL will always have a link to it. Here is the URL:     http://www.cas.lancs.ac.uk/short_courses/intro_spss.html

  3. Download the file sample.sav from the Center For Applied Statistics at Lancaster University page.

  4. We'll cover some information related to your legal sized page handout. The output of the File menu, Display Data File Information command, Working File subcommand is shown on your handout.

  5. Cases and variables; Utilities menu, Variables command; Data View and Variable View, showing value labels instead of values.

  6. Do session 3 on Crosstabulation and Recode commands.

  7. Do Session 8 The Chi-Squared test. You will need to download the GSS.SAV file, if you are working from home or office, but I'll show you how to get it in the Sabin Hall lab.

  8. Do the very beginning of Session 9: Two Sample T-Tests and ANOVA (we will only do Independent Samples T-Test - the Paired Samples T-Test and One-Way Anova will be in the afternoon class).

  9. What will be covered in the afternoon class? (For those who are attending both). The morning class is NOT a prerequisite for the afternoon class.

The first half hour or so will be review, but with different examples. The last 60 to 90 minutes will cover Linear Regression, Paired Samples T-Test, One-Way Anova and Numerical and Graphical summaries of data. I may do some Selecting and Sampling cases too.
